What is it?

'Muscle Activation Techniques' is a series of manual techniques developed by Douglas Heel BSc, a South African Physiotherapist and Kinesiologist.  His course 'Be Activated' is now  taught all over the world with phenominal success.

It is a revolutionary, performance enhancing system which helps to create a greater structural integrity in the body - so it is able to function at higher levels of performance in strength, power, flexibility and endurance as well as speed.

Mainly used in the Sport and Fitness world, these techniques are now finding their way into general manual therapy practices to treat patients but also to treat people who have 'nothing wrong with them' and just want to function better in their sport, fitness classes, gym and normal daily activities like walking, gardening, diy.

In simple terms, this approach re-sets the big muscle groups of the body so they will do the job they are supposed to do. It re-connects the brain with muscles that have gotten into a bad habit either through dis-use, miss-use, under-use or over-use.

Is this common?       Oh, Yes!
I have lost count of the number of people I have tested who failed the core-stability tests. From athletes in training, rugby players, pilates teachers, weight lifters, fitness fanatics. Six packs galore but the power was coming from elsewhere. This means that other, lesser equiped muscles, will have to take over which eventually will have an effect on it's function, lead to poorer performance and exposure to injury.
The body is very sophistocated and will carry on functioning with whatever it has at it's disposal but...... at a cost.

Have you ever given it any thought why your hamstrings are always tight, no matter how much you stretch? The answer is highly likely, that they are doing two jobs. Their own and that of your glutes.

What's next?
Come and get tested. You will be amazed by the results of the tests and even more so by the results of the treatment. The change is instantanious. You will also get advice of 'self-activation'.
I have already incorporated these techniques in my general osteopathic treatment with existing and new patients and am very pleased with the results I am getting, especially with patients who are recovering from joint replacements.

However, you don't have to be in pain or discomfort to have the assessment and treatment.

All ages, all levels of fitness or un-fitness are WELCOME.

If you are in doubt whether you might benefit and want to talk it over before you book an appointment, don't hesitate to call me on:
